FLY FISHING

The River Ericht is formed by the confluence of the rivers Blackwater and Ardle, which join together north of Blairgowrie at Bridge of Cally. The Ericht flows for 8 miles before joining the Isla, which then flows into the Tay and is acknowledged to be one of the most significant tributaries for spawning salmon in the entire Tay catchment.

West Grange’s 4 ½ miles of the river Ericht offer a hugely varied series of pools as the water flows down through the gorge above Blairgowrie and reaches the calmer stretches on its way to the Isla. There are 44 named pools on our water from above Cargill’s Leap to the north of Blairgowrie, all the way down to West Grange itself.

The river is best fished with a single-handed rod, or perhaps a small double-hander. It is an ideal size of water to introduce children and novices to the joys of fly-fishing.

The Ericht also provides excellent wild brown trout fishing, which comes into focus in low water conditions.

West Grange provides a ghillie to accompany its guests on the river.
